We’ll be helping distribute food and household items to their clients on a weekday evening. Please try to arrive by 5:30 PM\, as there will be a quick training session before they open their doors at 6 PM. \nPlease wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please have long hair pulled back. \nParking/Transportation: Paid parking is available on Lincoln Ave. Free parking can be found on the side streets (Byron\, Grace\, just west of Damen)\, and they are close to multiple bus lines and the Brown Line. \nCommon Pantry Mission: Common Pantry meets the emergency needs of our local community by providing healthy food\, kinship\, and support to help overcome poverty-related challenges. Our vision: Strengthen Common Pantry’s capacity to provide food and services for the overall well-being of our clients. Albany Avenue\, Chicago\, IL\, 60612 \nTotal Spots Available: 20 \nDescription: Join LGBTQ+ and Ally Volunteers as we partner with Heartland Human Care Services – Chicago FarmWorks. Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks that will include weeding\, laying down weed suppression fabric\, shoveling compost\, building grow beds\, and potentially helping to care for some native plant areas. \nVolunteers should wear weather appropriate attire suitable for working on an urban farm. We suggest these additional items: \n\nSunscreen\nHat and/or sunglasses\nWater and snacks to stay hydrated and energized\n\nHeartland Human Care Services will provide all farm work items on site (gloves\, trowels\, kneeling pads\, etc.). \nHeartland Human Care Services – Chicago FarmWorks Mission: For many low-income communities\, affordable food\, especially affordable healthy food\, is in short supply. To help address this problem\, Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS)\, in partnership with the City of Chicago\, NeighborSpace\, Rush University Medical Center\, Breakthrough Ministries\, and Our\nLady of the Angels Food Pantry\, operates two urban farm lots in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood called Chicago FarmWorks. We are able to grow\, harvest and distribute our produce with crucial support from our volunteers and our transitional job participants who are working to overcome many barriers to secure permanent full-time jobs. The produce we grow on our two farm lots goes to our food pantry partners\, Breakthrough Ministries Fresh Market and Mission of Our Lady of the Angels food pantry\, where it is distributed directly to hundreds of individuals and families each week. \nChipride Volunteering Mission: Chipride Volunteering connects Chicago’s diverse LGBTQ+ community and allies through unified volunteerism. \nWe strive to create a more inclusive city by centralizing opportunities that support a variety of nonprofits\, fostering connection and driving positive change at a local level.

Volunteers will assist with the distribution of groceries in their client-choice style pantry and breakdown at the end of the evening. Volunteers should be comfortable lifting 20 lbs and going up and down stairs. \n  \nImportant: Upon arrival\, please use the Volunteer Entrance located at: 1757 W Wilson Ave.\nAfter signup\, please fill out the RCS Volunteer Waiver requirement here before the event. \n  \nRavenswood Community Services Mission: Neighbors helping neighbors.
