SUMMARY:ChiPride Volunteering + Friends of the Forest - LaBagh Woods
DESCRIPTION:ChiPride Volunteering + Friends of the Forest Preserves – LaBagh Woods \n\nWhen: Sunday\, September 14th\, 2025\nTime: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm\nLocation: LaBagh Woods – N. Cicero Ave.\, N of W. Foster Ave.\, Chicago\, IL 60630 \nTotal Spots Available: 20 \n  \nDescription: Join LGBTQ+ and Ally Volunteers as we partner with Friends of the Forest Preserves on Chicago’s Northwest Side! Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks that will include removing invasive species\, seed collecting\, and potentially helping to care for some native plant areas.  \nVolunteers should wear weather appropriate attire suitable for working in a forest setting. We suggest these additional items: \n\nInsect repellant\nSunscreen\nHat and/or sunglasses\nWater and snacks to stay hydrated and energized\n\nFriends of the Forest Preserves will provide all work items on site (gloves\, trowels\, clippers\, etc.) \nWhen you enter the LaBagh Woods Forest Preserve entrance off N. Cicero Ave.\, follow the drive and look for signs directing “volunteers” to the appropriate location. \nFriends of the Forest Preserves Mission: Long before there was a Cook County\, this region where tallgrass prairie meets eastern forest was home to a breathtaking mosaic of landscapes. By the turn of the 20th century\, with a great city growing here\, civic leaders like Dwight Perkins and Jens Jensen recognized that it was essential to preserve these native landscapes for people to enjoy for centuries to come. They worked for years to establish the nation’s first – and now largest at 70\,000 acres – forest preserve district.  \nIn more recent history\, the forest preserves have encountered a great deal of abuse and neglect. Invasive brush turned thousands of acres into impassible thorn thickets\, preserve land was sold\, and trash littered the landscape. A new group of civic leaders\, people just like you\, formed Friends of the Forest Preserves in 1998 to rescue these treasured lands. We knew that in order to maintain these vast rewards and ensure they’re here for all of us to enjoy\, we’d have to work just as hard as the visionary citizens who protected them more than a century ago. \nToday\, we protect\, promote\, and care for the forest preserves to ensure they thrive for us and for future generations. Great civic leaders started the forest preserves over 100 years ago and now\, it’s our turn to be those great civic leaders that ensure the preserves are here and healthy for the next 100 years. \n  \nChiPride Volunteering Mission: Chipride Volunteering connects Chicago’s diverse LGBTQ+ community and allies through unified volunteerism.\nWe strive to create a more inclusive city by centralizing opportunities that support a variety of nonprofits\, fostering connection and driving positive change at a local level. \n

SUMMARY:ChiPride Volunteering + Share Our Spare
DESCRIPTION:ChiPride Volunteering + Share Our Spare Event \nWhen: Saturday\, September 20th\, 2025\nTime: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\nLocation: The Sharehouse\, 3800 N Milwaukee Ave\, Chicago\, IL 60641 \nTotal Spots Available: 30 \n  \nDescription: Join other LGBTQ+ and Ally volunteers as we help Chicagoland area children in need! We’ll be sorting essentials (books\, clothes\, toys) and packing diaper orders for children and their families. \n  \nShare Our Spare asks that all volunteers complete on online registration and waiver before the event. We’ll provide instructions for doing so after you register at the Chipride Volunteering website. \nShare Our Spare asks all volunteers to consider bringing a gently used donation of children’s clothing\, books\, or small gear items (bassinets\, strollers\, pack n plays) or a brand new donation of bottles\, diapers\, wipes\, or baby hygiene items (diaper rash creams\, soaps\, and lotions). Alternatively\, volunteers can purchase items from their Amazon Registry and the items will go directly to them. Here is the link to their Amazon Registry: https://www.amazon.com/baby-reg/FUOQXNO0KM3W. This is not a requirement to volunteer with them. \n  \nLocation & Parking: The Sharehouse is located at 3800 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago’s Old Irving Park neighborhood. The parking lot and the entrance is on Milwaukee Ave. You will see the Tierra Encantada daycare at the front of the parking lot. The front double doors to the building are located at the back of the parking lot. You will see the double doors next to a row of black mailboxes. When you enter the building\, you will walk down the L shaped hallway to the end where you will see our doors to enter our volunteer space labeled with Share Our Spare decals. There is a parking lot on Kilbourn Ave at the back of our building where you will see taxis. PLEASE PARK ONLY IN THE MILWUAKEE AVE LOT. DO NOT PARK HERE THE TAXI COMPANY WILL TOW YOU. \n  \nWhat to Wear: We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes and dressing in comfortable layers as the temperature of our warehouse can fluctuate. Office attire is not recommended. \n  \nShare Our Spare Mission: Share Our Spare (SOS) believes every child deserves a strong start and every parent the opportunity to provide one. Each year\, we help ensure more than 18\,000 Chicagoland children – from birth to age 5 – receive the essentials they need for healthy development\, by partnering with over 200 social service agencies across the area. Through these partnerships\, SOS provides diapers\, baby care items\, clothing\, books and other resources families in financial crisis often struggle to afford and social service agencies often struggle to find. While filling these critical gaps\, we also are focused on educating\, advocating and seeking solutions for improving the lives of children and families facing poverty in our region.  \nHere is why this matters: We know that 1 in 2 children in our city have an unmet diaper need\, which impacts parents’ ability to go to school or work. We also know that the cost of diapers has increased 22% compared to the current 6% national inflation rate\, resulting in even more financial hardship for our families. We also know that before factors of inflation that diapers cost 14% of our families’ income\, which inhibits their ability to maintain financial stability\, impacting health\, housing and child well-being. \n  \nChiPride Volunteering Mission: ChiPride Volunteering connects Chicago’s diverse LGBTQ+ community and allies through unified volunteerism. We strive to create a more inclusive city by centralizing opportunities that support a variety of nonprofits\, fostering connection and driving positive change at a local level.
