Misericordia Hearts and Flour Bakery Mission: Misericordia – which means ‘’heart of mercy’’ in Latin – offers a wide range of exceptional programs for children and adults with mild to profound intellectual and developmental disabilities. These 600 individuals come from diverse racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. One of Misericordia’s most popular work programs for its residents is the Hearts and Flour Bakery. The Bakery provides the dignity of a paycheck and the opportunity for our residents to take their skills to the highest level possible. They think of it not only as a place to work but as a place where they make lifelong friends with the staff and volunteers.
The Bakery first started as a way to make fresh bakery goods for our residents. It has evolved over the years to making desserts for Misericordia’s parties and selling our baked goods in the Greenhouse Inn Restaurant and online, at Farmers Markets and fundraising events, on the Sweets on Wheels Bakery Truck and at the Sweet Heart Shop in Glenview. We also ship our online bakery products nationwide.
All proceeds help contribute to the 600 children and adults that call Misericordia ‘’home.’’ Our residents may have intellectual and developmental disabilities, but this does not stop them from striving to reach their maximum potential. When you purchase our baked goods you’re not only helping support people with challenging disabilities but you’re also getting a tasty treat for your family, friends or business associates.
ChiPride Volunteering Mission: Chipride Volunteering connects Chicago’s diverse LGBTQ+ community and allies through unified volunteerism.
We strive to create a more inclusive city by centralizing opportunities that support a variety of nonprofits, fostering connection and driving positive change at a local level.
