Description: Join other LGBTQ+ and Ally volunteers as we help Chicago area youth in need! We will help beautify the grounds of Ignite’s Belfort House youth shelter in their first gardening project of the year. The Ignite community garden located on-site at Belfort House provides endless opportunities for volunteers and youth to contribute. Having a garden allows youth to see the benefits of growing food crops and learn how to care for and maintain their outdoor space. Gloves, equipment, and dirt/mulch will be provided. We will help with:
- Clearing out weeds, bushes, and plant beds
- Planting vegetables & flowers
- Raking and Digging
- Cleaning up grounds around the property
Location, Parking, and Public Transportation: Ample street parking is provided on S. Indiana Ave. Belfort House is about an 8-minute walk from the Indiana Green Line stop. Enter at the black gate in front of the bright orange building.
What to Wear/Bring:
- REQUIRED: Closed-toed shoes, work pants, jacket for weather, reusable water bottle
- OPTIONAL: A snack, sunscreen, bug spray
NOTE: IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER OR COLD TEMPERATURES, WE WILL COMPLETE A SERVICE ACTIVITY INDOORS AT BELFORT HOUSE.
